"My goal is to help Virginia parents protect their kids and guard their assets."
I graduated from Cornell Law school in 1993 and I started doing wills for parents in 2002, soon after I became a parent myself. When my daughter was born in 2000 and my son was born in 2001, I knew from my background as a lawyer that I needed a will. I started exploring my options for getting a will and was very disappointed. First, I considered using a software program from an office supply store and just modifying the forms as needed. I quickly realized that there were many holes and issues with these “fill-in-the-blank” type wills! Second, I started talking to other lawyers and was not able to find a lawyer who had really made young families the focus of his or her practice. In fact, one lawyer told me that if you were doing a will for a younger family, it was important to do it fast since it was not very high paying work! At that point, I made a decision to learn all I could about doing wills for parents with dependent children. I attended seminars, make a study of the field, and have continued to learn. Since that time in 2002, I have continued to do wills for parents all over the Richmond area. I am excited to announce that, as of last year, I have made a decision to phase out my other cases and focus solely on the estate planning needs of parents in Virginia.
I am thrilled to represent parents all over Virginia! Most of the parents who come to see me are the “go-getter” types with high expectations. Many of my clients are doctors, business professionals, engineers, and IT workers. The common thread is an intense interest in their kids and a desire not just to “get it done” but to “get it done right!”
There are many excellent estate planning lawyers in Richmond and throughout Virginia. I encourage you to do your homework as you find one. On my part, I would say that I have spent an enormous amount of time considering how to do wills and trusts for younger families, brainstorming issues, and organizing my practice around the concerns of such families. There may be other lawyers with a similar focus though.
